Torcon 3's current membership rate is Cdn$275 for an attending membership, Cdn$60 for a supporting membership (and Cdn$215 to convert from supporting to attending). This rate has previously been stated as being valid until at least July 15, 2003.
Torcon 3 is pleased to announce that this membership rate will not increase at that date. There will be no further increase in the Cdn$ rate prior to the at-the-door prices.
As a convenience, Torcon 3 has also been stating US$ membership rates of US$185 for attending and US$40 for supporting (and therefore US$145 to convert from supporting to attending).
Due to the weakening US dollar, Torcon 3 has found it necessary to increase the rate at which it accepts attending memberships in US funds to US$205.
Members who pay by credit card have already been noticing the effect of currency fluctuations over the past several months, since Torcon 3 processes all membership payments at the Canadian dollar rate and the member's credit card company converts the payment to US funds on his/her credit card bill.
The stated US funds rate of US$205 (formerly US$185) is valid for anyone paying for their membership by way of a cheque or international money order payable in US funds.
Torcon 3 will continue to accept payments by cheque, international money order (or cash at a convention) for attending memberships at the previous rate of US$185 until June 30, 2003. That rate will also be valid for membership sales paid by those same means at Westercon.
(Since payments by credit card are currently being processed against members's cards at approximately US$205, it is advantageous for members to pay by cheque prior to June 30 rather than paying by credit card before or after that date *hint* *hint*)
As the exchange rate differential is not significant in terms of dollars, there is no change in the US$ rate that will be accepted for supporting memberships - it remains at US$40 when paying by cheque or similar method.
Treasurer, Torcon 3
